Mint and freeze authority explained: the first Solana memecoin check

Every Solana SPL token has a mint account with two optional keys: a mint authority that can create new tokens and a freeze authority that can freeze any holder's token account. For a memecoin, both should normally be revoked (set to none).
Why it matters
- Live mint authority: supply can be inflated and dumped at any time.
- Live freeze authority: your tokens can be frozen so you cannot sell — a Solana equivalent of a honeypot.
How to check
- Open the token page here and read the Holders section (GeckoTerminal) and the stored scan (Solana RPC).
- Or query any public RPC with
getAccountInfoon the mint and read the authority fields. - Run the free safety scanner on any address.
Token-2022
Newer tokens can use the Token-2022 program, whose extensions (permanent delegate, transfer hooks, transfer fees) can be as dangerous as a live authority. The scanner decodes them from the mint account.
