Exit fees and leaving a contract early

Updated 2026-10-11

If you are still inside your minimum contract term, your provider can usually charge you to leave early. This is often called an early termination charge. It is often roughly the monthly payments left on the contract, minus some costs the provider no longer has.

How we treat it

Put the fee in "Exit fee if you leave now (£)". We add it to the total for every switching option, because you pay it whichever new deal you choose. "Staying" does not include it.

That is why switching can look worse in the "vs staying" column even when the new monthly price is lower. Sometimes it is cheaper to wait until your contract ends.

Where to find your exit fee

You can also let us read your bill on this device. We highlight the exit fee if it is printed on it, and you confirm it before we use it.
